About
“It was the land that brought the beauty of collage to me thirty years ago; and began my journey as a Collagist, Illustrator, Co-author of Vintage Collage-Works, Collage Teacher, Expressive Art Facilitator, and Storyteller.
After studying fashion design, a renewed passion for the native land and the garden unearthed by way of healing through nature. I was working as head gardener for my mother, artist, author, naturalist Maryjo Koch while studying botany, horticulture, & garden design - I pressed a botanical and a new story took seed.
I began collecting dry botanicals and intuitively incorporated them into my artwork, with fabrics, fibers, and found objects; creating an intermedia style somewhere between collage & assemblage.”

Sunny Koch grew from a family of artists in the Northern California Santa Cruz Mountains, alongside an Ecological Reserve of rare and endangered species. In her studio amongst the flora and fauna is where she began to explore Collage and Assemblage - after a life studying the arts, horticulture, and Fashion/Costume Design. Sunny's collage is rooted in the natural environment that surrounds and inspires her; as well as the art of repurposing, and the revealing of unseen depths. From the rise, Sunny’s artistic purpose has solely been to illuminate our sacred connection with nature, as nature. All collages are made with tangible found objects, by hand and scissor.
Sunny’s illustration work is one that creates handmade collage and assemblage for Editorial & Advertising commissions; with clients including Macy’s NY, Guideposts Magazine, Opportunity Journal, Hallmark Magazine, National Organization for Hearing Research Foundation, Gateway Women’s Shelter. She was awarded for an editorial illustration entitled 'Discovering My Roots’; and her Artist Profile was featured in Somerset Studio Magazine. In March 2008, Sunny’s first co-authored book ‘Vintage Collage-Works: Artful Ideas With Antique Ephemera’ was published.
In June 2021 Sunny certified as a SoulCollage® Facilitator, training under Mariabruna Sirabella. She also received certification in Worship. Sunny’s garden was published in Victoria Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, and Country Living, in collaboration with her mother Maryjo Koch. Sunny has been a creative consultant, assistant, & designer for Maryjo throughout the years. Maryjo & Sunny have collaborated on many projects, including books. Sunny’s love of creating books began in early childhood, and expanded to Book Design for three publications. She is in the midst of creating a book.
